About Sub-Surface Technologies

Sub-Surface Technologies (SST) was founded in 2004 by three partners who collectively have over 60 years experience in helical piling. SST is the exclusive importer of Chance™ Helical Piling Systems, including the patented Helical Pulldown™ Micropile for the UK Civil Construction market.

In addition SST is the sole importer of Hydraway™ drainage systems.

Located in Alnwick, Northumberland SST stocks the most commonly used items and operates an extremely efficient supply chain for all other items.

SST provides technical support and back up.

Chance and Hydraway products may only be installed by licensed and certified installers. Companies interested in being certified are invited to contact SST. Please click on the relevant field to see a list of currently licensed installers

Products

Subsurface Technologies, Limited primarily distributes: Hydraway Drainage Systems, A.B. Chance Helical Tiebacks, Pilings, and Chance Helical Pulldown Micropiles.

Higher load capacities than ever now are achievable by the patented HELICAL PULLDOWN™ Micropile technology. It continues to overcome obstacles to traditional foundation methods for a growing number of applications. The HELICAL PULLDOWN Micropile is a system for constructing a grout column around the shaft of a standard HELICAL PIER© Foundation Systems pile.

HELICAL PILES

Chance Helical Piles have 38mm – 64mm solid square shafts or 89mm pipe shafts with helical plates 203mm – 356mm in diametre.

Chance Helical Pulldown™ Micropile constructs a grout column, (typically 100mm or 127mm in diametre) around the shaft of a helical pile for sites with weak soil conditions or where extra load capacity is required.

BENEFITS OF CHANCE HELICAL PILES, SOIL SCREWS AND SOIL NAILS

  • No vibration during Helical Pile installation
  • No excavation spoils to remove
  • Low mobilization costs
  • Helical Piles Install in any weather
  • Highly corrosion resistant
  • The Chance Helical Pile installs in limited access situation - hand-installation in some cases
  • Ability to be installed in close proximity to underground services
  • Capacity of each helical pile is accurately measured using installation torque
  • End-bearing/friction composite pile
  • High-capacity: tested to 1,335 Kns
  • Transfers load through weak soils to high end bearing capacity helical plates
  • 100mm to 255mm diameter grout columns

Hydraway Drain is an environmentally friendly subsurface geocomposite drainage system that removes water from soils and relieves the hydrostatic pressure against subsurface structures. Water from the saturated soil passes through a filter fabric, enters the core, and is conveyed to an outlet pipe. Hydraway is an engineered alternative to conventional pipe and rock systems. The products can safely be used at depths in excess of 50′.
